Redefining Medication Packaging With Environmental Responsibility

At Venalink, we understand sustainability is not just a trend – it’s a commitment to the well-being of our planet and the health of our communities. Our innovative approach to designing MDS products revolves around circularity, a principle that guides our choice of materials and suppliers ensuring not only reduced environmental footprints, but also adherence to the stringent requirements of healthcare packaging.

We’ve already introduced a blister with recycled content to the medication adherence packaging market, and we won’t stop there. Our business is committed to creating fully recyclable MDS products by the end of 2025.

Certifications: Ensuring Responsibility From Source to Packaging

Our paperboard MDS products are Sustainable Forestry Initiative® and Forest Stewardship Council® certified. These certifications guarantee the fibre used in our packaging originates from responsibly managed forests that enforce stringent regulations on harvesting practices and a traceable chain of custody system.

Evaluating Our Environmental Impact: The Packaging Lifecycle Assessment

Embracing innovation, we use EcoImpact-COMPASS® lifecycle assessment technology to evaluate our packaging solutions. This comprehensive approach involves quantifying and comparing environmental footprints. This includes factors such as greenhouse emissions, water consumption, fossil fuel utilization, human impact, and material circularity. This robust assessment ensures our MDS products align not only with industry standards, but also with our unwavering commitment to minimizing ecological footprints.

Collaborations and Alliances: Driving Sustainable Change

As part of Jones Healthcare Group, we proudly collaborate with global organizations and associations, including the Sustainable Medicines Partnership (SMP) and Global Self-Care Federation. As founding members of SMP, we actively contribute to reducing avoidable medicine and packaging waste, effectively curbing healthcare emissions and fostering global health equity.

Sustainability at Jones Healthcare Group

In 2021, we diverted 100% of waste at our Medi-Clear facility in Hull, UK, from landfills to recycling or recovery. This aligns with our overarching goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% before 2030—a journey that’s already seen a 6% reduction.
