Sustainable Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS) for Pharmacists
At Venalink, we understand sustainability is not just a trend – it’s a commitment to the well-being of our planet and the health of our communities. Therefore, our innovative approach to designing MDS products revolves around circularity, a principle that guides our choice of materials and suppliers. This ensures not only reduced environmental footprints, but also adherence to the stringent requirements of healthcare packaging.
Additionally, we’ve already introduced a blister with recycled content to the medication adherence packaging market, and we won’t stop there. Our business is committed to creating fully recyclable sustainable monitored dosage systems by the end of 2025.
Our paperboard MDS products are Sustainable Forestry Initiative® and Forest Stewardship Council® certified. These certifications, in turn, guarantee that the fibre used in our packaging originates from responsibly managed forests. These forests not only enforce stringent regulations on harvesting practices but also maintain a traceable chain of custody system.
Embracing innovation, we use EcoImpact-COMPASS® lifecycle assessment technology to evaluate our packaging solutions. This comprehensive approach involves quantifying and comparing environmental footprints. Notably, this includes factors such as greenhouse emissions, water consumption, fossil fuel utilization, human impact, and material circularity. Furthermore, this robust assessment ensures our MDS products align not only with industry standards, but also with our unwavering commitment to minimizing ecological footprints.
As part of Jones Healthcare Group, we proudly collaborate with global organizations and associations, including the Sustainable Medicines Partnership (SMP) and Global Self-Care Federation. As founding members of SMP, we actively contribute to reducing avoidable medicine and packaging waste, therefore effectively curbing healthcare emissions and fostering global health equity.
In alignment with Bill S211 and the UK Modern Slavery Act, Jones Healthcare Group has introduced a Statement on Modern Slavery, emphasizing ethical standards and enforcing a strict non-tolerance policy against modern slavery in our supply chain.
In this context, recognizing the importance of continuous improvement, we are enhancing our efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks of modern slavery along with ethical business practices in the supply chain through the Sustainable Procurement Policy.
We are committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards prohibiting slavery, child labour, and forced labour. Equally important, we focus on measuring progress in our operations, supply chain, and business relationships, we are committed to compliance. Please refer to the full Statement, Supplier Code of Conduct, and our Sustainable Procurement Policy provided below.
In 2021, we diverted 100% of waste at our Medi-Clear facility in Hull, UK, from landfills to recycling or recovery. Generally, this aligns with our overarching goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% before 2030—a journey that’s already seen a 6% reduction.
